WBDH Radio operates a complex network of computer systems to bring you your favorite music. We have two main automation computers, one for each station. Our production room system contains all the software needed to edit large amount of audio files required every week to keep things operating. Additionally we build the necessary playlist and log files for all 3 of our facilities from the production room.
All of the systems on our radio network are connected to a 3 Terrabyte raid 5 array server which is our master storage device and is continually read from and written to. Audio inputs and outputs connect to distribution amplifiers before being fed to our consoles. All of our computer systems are located in the Technical Room and the monitors and keyboards are extended to each studio. We do this for heat and noise reduction in the studios.
WBDH uses a Windows based automation system for all of our facilities. Stationplaylist automation has been in operation here since 2003 and provides error free operation on a 24-7 basis.
UPS battery backup (from APC) is wired into all of our studios to keep critical equipment operating while our 35KW diesel generator has time to start. In fact all of our studios are pre wired with dedicated UPS outlets. All critical loads are backed up with three redundant UPS systems for a total of 2.6 kilowatts.
Our small 600 square foot studio building is heated and cooled by a 2.5 ton Trane central heat pump which gives us comfort in the most adverse weather conditions.
We use 4 audio consoles: A Sparta, Russco, Harris Stereo 80, and an LPB Signature 2. All studios are outfitted with the Australian made Rode NT1-A microphone for the rich sound we were looking for.
The technical room contains the processing equipment which feeds (baseband) left and right audio for each station to our AM transmitter building. WBDH has a 24 fiber underground cable running several hundred feet between our buildings, including our AM transmitter building. We use the copper as back up. All of our audio and internet connections have been "fiberized" for the best possible quality.
